Review of The Equalizer 2 (2018) by Pedro B — 22 Jul 2018
More often then not you have a movie sequel that you say, well that didn't need to be made. When I first saw that The Equalizer 2 was coming out, I felt that way. However, this time the director Antoine Fuqua is back and of course so is Denzel Washington.
I gave the original three stars, and this sequel is getting the same. Neither are classic pieces of cinema, but they are both better then your average thriller. Washington just seems to be good in almost anything he does, and given a better then average script and director, good things happen.
This storyline is as good as the first, and maybe a little better. I liked how the subplots were all pieced together, and that they had a purpose. On the negative side, this a slow burn which isn't always bad, but a little tightening in the editing bay could've helped.
If you liked the Fuqua/Washington team up in Training Day and the first Equalizer, you will like this one too.
