Review of The Equalizer 2 (2018) by Tim E — 23 Jul 2018
I love Denzel in these roles, but this movie let its politics trample the story throughout. Women are all victims that must be saved or avenged, white men are all evil or pathetic(within a few minutes of the opening the tone is so clear that you see all the "twists" a mile away), and you know who will and won't die in every scene based on the color of their skin.
The action is good in the first half if you ignore the politics, but the second half gets ridiculously stupid. It feels like a bad slasher film, with less and less probable events occurring to allow the hero to triumph.
The young neighbor was the best part of the film, but even his arc ended with the film's heavy handed stereotyping. I'll still see the next one, just hope it is better.
