Review of The English Patient (1996) by Gillian D — 04 Jun 2011
I love long, sprawling David Lean-esque epics, but this just didn't do it for me. The actors are all phenomenal, and the technical aspects of the movie are pro. The story and the romance just aren't very interesting.
For such a long film, not a lot happens between Fiennes and Scott Thomas. Part of the problem was probably spending too much time in the flashed forward scenes with Binoche. It was trying to tell 2 different stories in the time it normally takes to tell 1.
Neither were fleshed out enough.
