One of the greatest epic romances..and I love them all. The two stories play out beautifully against each other. A serious feat of editing by good ol Walter. There is no cross-examination, no contrived elements, really... honest, and still successfully gorgeous. Oh, passion.
An excellent study of nationalism and its importance in the face of greater elements. Masterful.
