The English Patient is a well made, well acted movie. The story itself is interesting, the cinematography is beautiful. However, I find myself in the camp of those that think it's overrated. For it to have beat out Fargo for Best Picture is a sad moment in the history of the Oscars.
I don't mind long movies, so long as it doesn't hinder the pace of the film and the story warrants it. That's not the case with English Patient, as it does occasionally border on the 'boring' territory.
Still, I respect the film considerably more than Elaine Benes.
