Review of The English Patient (1996) by Min K — 15 Sep 2012
A poetic and dramatic romance that carries tones of pre-1960s Hollywood classics. Very well cast. Something in the dialogue didn't sit right with me - I had a hard time believing that the characters would say some of the things they were saying.
That, and there just seems to be something out of balance for me, but I can't quite put my finger on it. Basically, I found myself swimming through the film trying to figure out how I was best supposed to take it in, only to feel that at the end I never quite landed on anything.
Don't get me wrong, though. The performances and the vignettes are still beautiful and well-crafted. It's the glue holding it all together that I found lacking.
