Review of The English Patient (1996) by Hannah D — 27 Nov 2012
For some reason I aborted the first attempt at watching it a few years ago. Perhaps my taste just wasn't sophisticated enough then. I am so glad I gave it another go, as I thought it well and truly deserved its glut of Oscars. I much preferred the scenes with Hanna and the injured pilot to the flashback scenes in the desert, as I am really fond of Juliette Binoche as an actress and make a point of watching anything she's in.
The cinematography is wonderful, and the soundtrack really completes it. I watched it in two parts as it is rather long. I did not want to spoil it by getting restless.
