Review of The English Patient (1996) by Debanjan C — 14 May 2013
After reading the book, I was mildly satisfied to see the onscreen adaption. Yes, it retains most of the storyline, albeit a few changes which were probably necessary if you had to make it into a movie.
Mind you, it is a good movie, just that there's a factor that seemed to be lacking due to which the good doesn't translate to great. Kip should have been given more screen time, his role was cut short and I really felt that was where this movie goes wrong considering he has such a wonderful character in the novel.
Something we just don't seem to see in the movie. The casting and setting is perfect and the plot moves along in a perfect pace. Fans of the book will be satisfied with the outcome.
