Review of The English Patient (1996) by Garrett O — 20 Oct 2009
Great romantic movie of the last twenty years. Juliette Binoche and Kristin Scott Thomas carry the movie and their performances mark them as great actresses. Ralph Fiennes' character is a man who is emotionally parched after years of solitude and the change wrought by love is both beautiful and overwhelming.
The cast is outstanding, most of the actors are well known in Europe but unfortunately we in America don't get to see them very frequently. Willem Dafoe's portrait of a man who lays down a personal vendetta in the face of the humanity he discovers is one of the many "gem" performances in the movie.
