I'll preface this review by saying that Lovecraft is one of my favorite authors, and that I believe his idea of horror to be the truest form.

With that said, I expected to like The Endless a lot more than I did.

The film begins strong with a good premise. I was immediately intrigued by this cult out in the middle of nowhere, worshiping some forest deity. The "struggle" scene was phenomenal, and immediately evoked a sense of nameless dread.

However, unfortunately, the story just never really went anywhere. On top of that, I felt that it was a little absurd. If the two brothers grew up in the camp, how were they never trapped in the time loop? Did it start after they left? This was never really explained.

On top of the plot holes, everything in the film just looks kind of bad. The scene where Justin (Justin Benson) was running by himself and the sun blacked out for a moment was really cool though. Really cool.

The worst part of The Endless, however, is the script. The acting was mediocre at best, but I believe that the script may be mostly responsible for that. It's been a long time since I've seen a movie with so much pointless cursing. I normally don't give a shit about language, but it comes off as extremely juvenile in this case.

Overall, The Endless is a film with an interesting premise and horrible execution.
