Review of The End of the Tour (2015) by Matthew S — 13 Aug 2015
I approached this film with concern despite all the great world of mouth it has received. But James Ponsoldt and Donald Margulies have made a solid film. If this isn't exactly as it was, I'm contend to think this is close to capturing the artist who left the world far too soon.
Interestingly, the film avoids what I was afraid it would do: sentimentalize or over-emotionalize itself. I'm not big on those types of movies or representations, but it seemed like this movie was almost tripping over itself to avoid emotion at all costs, This is a pretty tight intellectual film. A bit more emotion might have helped.
Luckily they were smart enough to cast Jason Segel. An actor I would have never imagined in this role. But he is amazing. A truly great turn.
