Review of The End of the Tour (2015) by Dean B — 23 Aug 2015
Jason Segel gives a touching performance as David Foster Wallace, and Jesse Eisenberg is droll as the too-competitive, scowling David Lipsky who flies into the snowy Midwest to interview Wallace at the peak of his fame.
It's fun watching the two Davids play off each other, but eventually a sour mood begins to permeate the film, and it seems as emotionally frozen as the landscape. There are no hugs here, no resolutions, and for Wallace, eventually, no future; the movie winds up so muffled, it seems unsure as to how much of a tragedy this is.
Joan Cusack gooses up her scenes as a publicist.
