Review of The End of the Tour (2015) by Cary R — 29 Aug 2015
A truly riveting film going experience. It isn't riveting in the traditional sense with lots of powerhouse performances with lots of emotions and big moments but riveting in how natural the whole movie is in writing and performances.
Jesse Eisenberg has been one of my favorite young actors for the past few years now and I think this is his best performance since his outstanding performance in The Social Network. Jason Segel also is quiet great in a very different performance but one that he nails because of all of the great traits he has a comedic actor in some of his past works.
He shares a lot of his vulnerable side that we got to see in Forgetting Sarah Marshall but we got to see his goofy side that we loved on How I Met Your Mother. Segel has always been great but this shows that he is truly interested in doing different things and I can't wait to see what's next for him.
The true star of this movie is the writing. It's beyond anything I have heard in a movie in a long time in how conversational and real every word they say. Not a line was a throw away, every word truly captivated me on the edge of my seat.
I also got to talk to the real David Lipsky after the movie in a Skype interview about his involvement in the movie and the amount of detail that went into this movie is just wonderful from the set decoration to the accuracy to the real conversations.
This is one of the best movies of the year and one of the best adapted screenplays of this decade so far.
