Review of The End of the Affair (1999) by Robert N — 15 Apr 2012
Seattle Opera performed this by Jake Heggie in 2005 and was my first introduction to the work by Graham Greene. Now having seen this version by Neil Jordan, I must finally read the book. I preferred the Opera which brought everyone to tears, myself included, during its poignant finale which brought together a tale of love and faith to its tragic conclusion.
The movie brings less heart (how can you compare to opera?) and more introspection to the story through captivating performances by Fiennes, Moore and Rea. This is serious work from a man of faith and I encourage you to read Graham Greene's The Heart of The Matter.
He is perhaps better known to movie goers for his spy tales The Quiet American and The Third Man.
