Review of The Empire Strikes Back (1980) by Ken S — 21 Dec 2015
The best of the original trilogy steps out of the enormous shadow created by the first film and manages to be bigger, darker, stronger, and all around better than the first. It adds plenty to the Universe like the Emperor, Vader's identity as Luke's father, and Yoda.
Again, I prefer the original cut, all the new effects and slight alterations just degrade the quality of the story, and distract the eye for no reason. The cliffhanger is one of the best endings in film history in my opinion.
I consider myself more of a mild fan of the "Star Wars" franchise, but "The Empire Strikes Back" is just great cinema, and rises to a whole new level.
