Review of The Empire Strikes Back (1980) by Jim C — 04 Jan 2016
The Empire Strikes Back may be the most flawless science fiction film ever made and one of the few sequels in history to improve upon the original. It is hard to believe this technical wonder was released in 1980.
Its scale and special effects wizardry were at least a decade ahead of its time. Its intense "non-campy" dramatic elements were rarely found in science fiction films of the era as well. Our heroes are more emotionally tangible than in the preceding film and in most of the other sequels or prequels.
Viewers new to Star Wars, like audiences in the late 20th century, will almost certainly become instant fans of the saga with a single viewing of this cinematic masterpiece.
