Achieving what was seemingly impossible by improving on a perfect film, "The Empire Strikes Back" continues the Star Wars saga with a greater focus on character development while upping the ante in the visual department.
The script is by far the most sophisticated of any in the series with call-backs, parallels, and one of the greatest reveals in cinematic history. Nearly every scene is iconic in one way or another, its darker tone allowing for more meaningful exchanges and the powerful, morally-ambigious storytelling that makes it such compelling viewing.
