A rare breed of a film. Better than its predecessor 1977 film Star Wars. Second in the original trilogy of films.

Actually Episode V in the intended 9 film series.

The film explores new scenery rather than the central 'Death Star' seen in Episode IV. Here we see new worlds, planets be they frozen or swampy.

New characters join those already introduced. A delightful muppet like creature called Yoda (Frank Oz) for example. The freezing cold planet seen at the beginning (Hoth) was actually filmed in Norway.

The swampy planet (Dagobah) sees the young hero Luke Skywalker receive tuition in the ways of the mysterious force from Yoda.

I am starting to become too geeky!

Director duties are taken over by Irvin Kershner with series creator George Lucas consigned to the Executive Producer credit. Despite this it was his money that funded production away from the established movie studios?

The film as well as continuing to showcase the effects seen in Episode IV does have a good storyline and a startling conclusion.

The force is definitely enjoyed when watching this film.

No doubt was the wallet of Lucas going by the box office success of this instalment in the saga.
