Under a new director with a darker tone and a smaller-scale plot (since it essentially revolves around the main characters trying to escape the Empire rather than taking out planet-crushing super weapons) this becomes one of the best movies I've ever seen.
Every actor puts in an impressive performance (particularly Harrison Ford) and every scene is filled with tension. If this is what people expected from the prequels, I can understand why they would be disappointed.
