With respects to The Godfather: Part II and The Dark Knight, The Empire Strikes Back is the greatest sequel ever made. It expands the universe in compelling ways, adds emotional layers and dimensions to the characters, and contains arguably the greatest reveal in cinema history.
A perfect sci-fi/fantasy film in every way imaginable.
