Review of The Emperor's New Groove (2000) by Ryan V — 14 Mar 2012
Mercifully lacking the sappy romance and overabundance of songs that mar many Disney flicks, The Emperor's New Groove focuses on zippy action, snappy dialogue, and heartening laughs. The plot follows a self-centered Incan sovereign (David Spade) who is transformed into a llama by a usurping priestess (Eartha Kitt).
The only fellow who can save this man is a rustic peasant (John Goodman) whose village is threatened by the emperor's hubris. Although the storytelling is brisk and engrossing, the main virtue of this delightful film is in the humor generated by the amiable animation and the great voice cast (Patrick Warburton steals the show as the dim-witted henchman Kronk).
