Review of The Emperor's New Groove (2000) by Trevor W — 29 Apr 2015
Perhaps Disney's most comedically-focused animated film to date, this beautifully animated film follows an emperor turned into a llama by an ex-advisor and her henchman as he ventures back to his palace with a peasant.
The film is pleasantly self-aware and the comedy is surprisingly clever. The jokes mostly hit, but some of them, especially in the first act, seem desperate and juvenile. The audience is entertained by the characters, but feel very little for them.
One more screenplay draft would have fixed these problems, but what we have is entertaining enough.
