Review of The Emperor's New Groove (2000) by Richard D — 07 Mar 2014
I'm really not a fan of this era of Disney animation. It seems that it became apparent to Disney that financial success of an animated film was tied to having it appeal to both children and adults, but they took the laziest approach possible to generating adult appeal.
Cram in some recognizable pop culture references and extremely familiar voice actors and you get instant adult appeal at the lowest common denominator level. No need to actually craft a story that has meaning to all age groups.
It's the model that swarms of egregious animated films have followed ever since. I don't think this is one of the worst examples ... it's mildly appealing, but also kind of flat and superficial.
