Review of The Emperor's Club (2002) by Tim D — 23 Feb 2008
There is very little good about this movie. Where to start? Kline plays a teacher who supposedly values character above all, but puts his ethics on hold to raise his project kid above the more deserving other students (by giving him a better than deserved grade).
Then, to correct his mistake, he asks him a question that he can't answer, and isn't even related to the course. Then, you expect a redeeming ending, but when the kid turns out to be the same cheating guy he was, he asks him a question from when the kid wasn't even in the course.
I guess it is the hypocrisy of the movie itself (holding itself up as a feel good movie, while the teacher plays favouritism, and showing that jerk kids turn into jerk adults) that turns me off.
