Review of The Emoji Movie (2017) by Carmen P — 04 Aug 2017
There is a sheep mentality among those trashing this movie. I saw this with the lowest of expectations and kept waiting for moments that led other reviewers to call this movie "offensive", or one that leaves a viewer "a colder person, not only angry at the film for being unconscionably bad, but resentful of it for making them feel angry.
"; and "a movie for no one." There may not be many laughs but there are genuine ones, and I don't recall attempts at humor that fell flat. It was not great, not bad, but enjoyable. There is one scene (in virtual Paris) that comes off very well and made me wish we could see it in 3D.
I suspect the fact that the movie has product placement and that they refused to let critics publish before it was released may have led to the unwarranted backlash. I've read several of the reviews and have not seen one that actually articulates a fair and reasoned objection to the movie.
I'm not saying it's a must see, but don't let the negative reviews keep you from seeing it.
