Review of The Elephant Man (1980) by Dominick R — 07 Jan 2009
This is a beautiful movie. Its very clear that Burton's Scissor Hands was heavily influenced by this film. The heart and focal point of the films most prominent theme rests on the central characters line " I am not an animal.
I am a human being." The men that interact and "care" for the Elephant Man, exploit his disfigured body for their own benefit. I need a second viewing to fully understand Anythony Hopkins performance and what exactly his motives for taking in the Elephant Man in are.
The film is very touching, and I encourage everyone to watch it. I would hope that people watch the movie by themselves in order to establish a relationship with the film. I completely discourage watching this movie with more than one other person.
