Review of The Elephant Man (1980) by Christopher P — 04 Jul 2009
Why is the DVD of this film out of print? It's so difficult to find, yet it is clearly one of the most beautiful and haunting films ever made.
I cannot yet say this is Lynch's magnum opus, as I have only seen this and Eraserhead, but I have the odd feeling if I was better acquainted with his work I would only be more inclined to call this his best film.
The black and white cinematography is itself a revelation, and I've never seen Anthony Hopkins or John Hurt so utterly transcendent.
