This is a very sad, cruel movie and it shows how cruel people can be in this world. Thre are somethings that cannot be avoided and Joseph Merricks illness was one of them. This was a medical phenomenon back in the day but in no way should he have been exploited the way he was.
This movie shows that he was not a freak but in fact a human being and an intelligent one at that.
