Review of The Elephant Man (1980) by Clay T — 29 Oct 2009
I'd say this is David Lynch's least impressive work for me. Its also feels like his most on-rails film, working from strict text that left little up to interpretation or his intuition.
I admired John Hurt's performance, as I'm sure anyone would find it difficult trying to emote through six inches of rubber and makeup. Also entertaining seeing a young Anthony Hopkins do his thing. The outdoor sets are really impressive, though hardly great enough to recommend watching the movie for these things alone.
65%.
