Review of The Elephant Man (1980) by James C — 01 Dec 2010
John Hurt's greatest screen character, and you don't even see his true face on screen. Anthony Hopkins is also superb in perhaps David Lynch's finest film (Blue Velvet the only other one as good as this).
This is beautifully shot and makes the most of close ups and some brilliant long shots that Lynch seems to take great artistic pride in. An upsetting yet somehow uplifting morality tale, at once heartbreaking and life-affirming.
