Review of The Eiger Sanction (1975) by W. M. L — 20 Mar 2011
I love climbing movies; as Clint's ones.
But this one disappointed me, - although it's set (and shot) in a mountain of my country (the Eiger so) whose north face is considered the hardest to climb in the world -, when I saw it an eternity ago, and again when I gave it a 2d chance around 1 year ago.
Talking about the Eiger, if you like climbing, I highly recommand you to see a better (of course Clint's film is far away to be only a climbing movie anyways) movie (if you didn't already of course), Nordwand (The North Face) of 2008, from true facts about the 1st team ever trying to conquer this famous north face of the Eiger.
It was an austrian duo, in 1936, in a competition against a german team.
A very good spectacle, full of beautiful images, suspense, danger, fear, snow, humanity, impressive, desperate situations... In a word like in 100, a duel at the summit.
Some kind of epic movie with only a few characters and in a kinda reduced set.
