Review of The Egyptian (1954) by Goran K — 19 Jul 2007

A movie by one of the greatest directors of all time; Michael Curtiz.

Just check out his resume (among the best are Captian Blood, Robin Hood,Angels with dirty faces and Casablanca to name a few).

This is also one of his unsung greats and a brilliant epic.

Ustinov is great in this movie. So is Gene Tierney, cold and haunting as ever.

Bella Darvi plays a cruel role to perfection as she toys with the lead character Sinhue played by a sympathetic Edmund Purdom. Victor Mature also stands out.

The movie has a massive plot worthy of a place next to the great hollywood epics and is historically based.

All the twists come to head in a classic Mexican stand off poisoning scene that just needs to be witnessed.

I urge you to see this movie.
