Review of The Edukators (2004) by Arin D — 12 Jan 2008
The days of good films from Germany are not numbered (even if "Die Fetten Jahre sind vorbei'). In fact, anything with Daniel Bruhl in it seems to be good. This film captures the spirit of rebellion in a period where 'what have you got' is no longer enough - because everything has been done before.
The path to the idealist's utopia is littered with disenchantments, this we knew. But at least long debates between ideological opponents (The three Edukators vs. the fatcat capitalist they capture) never happened in quite as picturesque a setting as this movie's alpine cottage.
A side-story is a love triangle (another thing Bruhl seems to specialize in). The ending is just about perfect. I was afraid it would be dark, as so many films about idealists now seem to be. But it's not!
