Review of The Edukators (2004) by Andy O — 13 Nov 2009
I admit I really do enjoy German cinema and I believe it can be the best in Europe so maybe I was always going to look favorably on The Edukators, that aside this is a brilliant movie.
The Edukators was filmed in 2004 and released in 2005 and with the tag-line "your days of plenty are numbered " the movie seems to have a prophetic quality if one considers the global downturn.
Essentially The Edukators is a very simple concept but is executed in an masterful way by Director Hans Weingartner , (rarely for a film) one feels that one understands each of the main Edukators as well as Burghart Klaussner's character and I certainly felt drawn into their world of capitalism's injustice from the outset.
I really do have nothing but praise for this movie from its respect to the audiences intelligence to the fact it realizes you don't need hand-held cameras and extreme dialogue to get across the message of a movie.
I thought Julia Jentsch performance stood out from the rest as the girl that had her life ruined and thus provided the inspiration to take Daniel Brühl beliefs to the dangerous next level.
I personally also liked the twist at the end that to be honest I didn't see coming, I thought it provided an elegant ending to an excellent example of German cinema.
