The Edge of Seventeen is a surprisingly smart and relatable movie. Hailee Steinfeld is amazing in her role. She delivers an all star performance. Woods Harrelson also shines as Steinfeld's teacher.
All of the performances in this film were great. The film nicely blend comedy and drama. Most movies like this have an awkward mix, but this one blends them very nicely. I actually did laugh out loud during a couple scenes.
The script is smart and funny. The film also is very relatable. As a current senior in high school, I could relate to a lot of the situations in the film. The film doesn't just gloss over the drama.
It tells it in a very effective way. My only problem with the film is that it is pretty predictable. You know how the movie will end right when it starts. But it's about the journey, not the destination, right? Overall, this is a wonderful surprise.
The film is smart, honest, and features excellent performances.
