Review of The Edge of Seventeen (2016) by Lisa R — 08 Jan 2017
Haliee Steinfeld is so good in this. I found parts of her character and this film so relatable still 20 odds years past me being at the edge of 17.
It has quite a few similarities to Emma Stone's Easy A from 2010, especially with the relationship between the protagonist and a wise cracking teacher, but this one, although very funny, takes a more serious turn and is more of a character study of a grieving, awkward, depressed, but super interesting, intelligent, old soul teenager. I can relate!
And massive ups for the casting of an Asian American male love interest who is so ridiculously awkward and adorable you've got to love him.
If you like high school or teen movies (like I do), don't miss this one.
