Review of The Edge of Seventeen (2016) by Raven B — 04 Feb 2017
This movie works well for a number of reasons. Some people are complaining that they don't understand Nadine's suffering. She is a bold, pretty, smart girl, so she has no reason to be such a miserable person.
But actually that is the point. Nadine had got so worked up in her problems that she failed to see the good in her life. I think that a lot of people don't realize that there are many real life Nadines.
These people suffer from a type of anxiety and depression where the smallest things can seem huge, and can tear your entire world apart. It might seem obvious to others that things aren't as bad as they seem, but to that person, life can be a tornado of horrible things.
I think the film was a bit of hope to those that suffer like Nadine. I like the realness of it. It just works.
