Good performances can't save The Edge of Seventeen from being just another coming-of-age movie. Chockfull of stereotypes ranging from its narrative arch to the character's relationships, The Edge of Seventeen may serve as a satisfactory date movie but doesn't belong anywhere near the best of the year.
