Review of The Edge of Love (2008) by Jk F — 26 Jun 2008
Although a little self-consciously 'arty', this actually is a pretty entertaining film and probably the most beautifully-lensed picture so far this year (is artist John Maybury capable of an ugly film?).
The characterisations are generally good throughout; Keira Knightley's excellent performance is not as surprising as it would have been pre-Atonement (although I find the comparions with that movie throughout the press frankly a little odd as apart from their period, they're just so different) but this time it's Sienna Miller who's a revelation, proving that her looks really are matched by her talent.
The artiness does occasionally cause the film to meander, but it draws together well and overall - without wishing to damn it with faint praise - it's reasonably worthwhile.
