Review of The Edge of Love (2008) by Jack B — 10 Jul 2008
I HATED this movie. A typical style over substance film that spends longer gazing with adoration at its female leads (Will they lez up? Maybe, they're frolicking on a bed...but no here's the tiniest bit of poetry instead) than exploring the characters interesting relationships.
A biopic of Dylan Thomas where he and his poetry are relegated to a supporting role- bad idea. Putting two of the most unlikeable female presences in contemporary Hollywood together and expecting us to care- bad idea.
Not giving Cillian Murphy enough to do- bad idea. Having Suggs form Madness appearing for no reason- bad idea. Pointing a camera at lots of pretty things- ok idea for five minutes. So that's four bad ideas to one ok idea.
That sounds about right.
