Review of The Edge of Love (2008) by Stacy C — 03 Feb 2009

I absolutely loved everything about this film.

First and foremost, the cast is excellent. Keira Knightley was good as always and Matthew Rhys was great, but the stand outs were definitely Sienna Miller and Cillian Murphy. Cillian is just such a unique actor who brings a feel to everything he does and no matter how wrong his character is he makes you relate to that character. And Sienna is just.. a timeless beauty.

As for the cinematography... absolutely stunning. The unique transitions between scenes, the creepy shocking shots, and the muted tones makes you feel as part of that era. It really reeks of war time and gives you the cold, depressed feeling you need to really sink into it and feel the fear they felt.

Lastly, the actual story is more of a love story between two women as friends than a love story of the actual couples. I loved the dark humor that shouldn't actually be funny, but still somehow was and the gutsy/flirty lines the women used. Though the story seems a bit far fetched/unrealistic I actually found myself liking it for just that.

It's heart breaking, heart warming, funny, sad, and simply beautiful. I finished watching it. And then restarted it and watched it again.
