Superbly directed and with some very fine acting, the material is possibly too hard on itself.That the characters are all creating a more complicated situation than they need to is irritating.What's more irritating is that the film seems happy to sit back and watch, rather than challenge the viewer, or explain the motivations for the misery that the characters create for themselves.
