Review of The Edge of Love (2008) by Private U — 25 Oct 2008
The Edge of Love held me entranced what with its lilting music and beautiful lines. This is a biopic on the life of Dylan Thomas, poet extraordinaire, not treated in the way a biopic normally would be.
Bound to love two women who are best friends - his wife played by Sienna Miller and his muse (Kiera Knightley). I cant enthuse enough about the crackling chemistry between this trio that had me glued to the screen without batting an eyelid.
The film is poetry by itself - love, anger, friendship, hate - everything blends into chiarascuro light and visuals. The cinematography and the handling of light is beautiful. The story is set in 1940s London amidst the vagaries of the World War and the Blitz.
Sienna Miller is passionate and heart-breaking as Caitlin. Kiera Knightley delivers a strong performance and validates her title as the Queen of Period Films. Cillian Murphy is the actor to watch out for, so involved is he in his character's poetic overtures and immune to the lives entangling around him.
Miller and Knightley could very well pass off as another couple in The Edge of Love. Film buffs - you can't miss this one. It is glorious!
