Review of The Edge (1997) by Jantzen V — 15 May 2009
An unsung masterpiece. Works beautifully on so many levels - most obviously as a man against beast/wilderness tale, but you can peel the onion layers back further and further than that. Exquisite casting, spot on direction, and a fascinating dissection of so many relevant things: deceit, neglect, manipultion, greed, regret, guilt.
..and especially the balance of primal and celebral within one's self. Bart the Bear is sensational, but Hopkins steals this wonderful show, the purest and least indulgent example of Mamet's writing I can think of.
