Review of The East (2013) by Auli H — 21 Sep 2013
A powerful message forcefully promoted in this strong willed film which deserves a greater audience than it'll probably get. Solid throughout and asking uncomfortable questions it somehow doesn't quite reach the gutpunch feeling it needs for the final third.
In the end the characters just aren't aggressive enough in their feelings and the consequences aren't quite harsh enough. Still if it makes you think about the way we all assist the system that is so wasteful and corrupting of values we aspire to share then this movie has served its purpose - and I think it will.
