Review of The Dynamiter (2011) by Clint I — 01 Apr 2013
This is one of those rare glimpses into the reality of rural poverty, a phenomenon almost completely hidden from the media and largely ignored. It is remarkable when it appears at all in films like Winter's Bone and Beasts of the Southern Wild, though this movie is far more real than either of them.
It sees its world with clear eyes, with no villains, only regular people in lean circumstances trying to get by. It's not about plot or narrative but witnessing. It is true to the experiences of myself and others I knew in the rural South and a great document.
