Review of The Dying Gaul (2005) by Warren N — 25 Aug 2007
How can a film start out so promising only to have the wheels fall off in the second half?
With the trio of Campbell Scott, Peter Sarsgaard and Patricia Clarkson, how can you not want this film to succeed? Also, the dialogue is sharp, the story is compelling and the film has its share of creative editing and dynamic cinematography.
However, an improbably and hackneyed plot device delivers a fatal blow. The second half of the film is not grounded, feels manipulative and falls short of expectation.
The first half of 'The Dying Gaul' is worth seeing for the strength of the performances and dialogue, however be warned, if you keep watching you will feel cheated.
