Review of The Dunwich Horror (1970) by Brett R — 07 Jun 2010
Conveys despair and horror in the Lovecraft fashion. But, something about language old style horror is written in didn't translate well into modern English. Still, I liked the special effects... eerie and realistic.
Believe it or not, the story itself was lacking (sorry Lovecraft)... the romance was shallow, the logic wasn't sound, and the murders meaningless. Some of the characters were off the wall. Some were downplayed too much.
And some of the story just didn't come across (the dream, the house, the book). Plus, Stockwell wasn't up to his usual oddball antics. Anyway, there's a lot here and I thought it was scary (unlike most slash, gore, and monster flicks of today).
