Review of The Dukes of Hazzard: The Beginning (2007) by Eric-Travis S — 08 Sep 2008
Hmmmm. I think the "fake Bo and Duke" from the year Bo and Luke were off driving Nascar (contracts weren't renewed) had better Duke action than this here film.
As a film overall this film may have been slightly weaker than the first (2005) film in this new Dukes series, but it may have been written slightly more like the original series was. With the exception of the fact that wholesome morals are replaced with explosions, T&A, and lewd acts with poultry. Yes, I did say that.
Casting-wise, I think there were some improvements and some total mistakes when compared to the first film. Of course, Willie Nelson's Uncle Jesse was the only character to carry on aside from the 1969 Charger.
Better:
-Bo Duke (maybe kinda sorta).
-Daisy Duke.
-Sherriff Coltrane (better fit).
-Boss Hogg (maybe slightly better, but definitely different).
Worse:
-No point listing them, everybody else in the cast was worse, especially Luke Duke and Cooter.
The plot was very Dukes'ish, but whereby the last film at least infused a lot of modern style, this one was somewhere between the TV show, the last movie, and whatever happens when you slash the budget for the next film.
I rate this film 2 stars, same as the 2005 DoH film. Pure popcorn for adolescent boys, but definitely not a tribute to one of the best hillbilly TV shows of all time.
