Review of The Dukes of Hazzard (2005) by Eric-Travis S — 08 Sep 2008
It was great to see "The General" back in action. I think Johnny Knoxville's character was the only one that was a true homage to the original series, which leads me to wonder if it was a directorial, casting, or just plain acting debacle why every other character was completely different in almost every way to the original show.
The next-most believable character was probably Reynolds' rendition of Hogg which could be a plausable younger, less goofy, slightly more sinister version of the old beloved character. They dumbed up Daisy (in hair colour and intelligence), they made Bo a bit of a socially-challenged weirdo (why?), they made Sheriff Coltraine into a complete arse-hole, and although I liked Willie Nelson's performance (it was great) it was quite a few octaves away from the moral patriarch of the original series which made the show so wholesome.
Also, if I might add, the scene on the freeway with the flag commentary was what really makes me hate this movie. One star for the car, one star for Johnny...
